"Healthy Living" Community

PUTTING ECOLOGY FIRST

An experimental approach to masterplanning that works on the premise that a "healthy living community" begins with a healthy relationship with our natural environment and living systems.

We worked with Ecologist Louis Pearson to study the ecological baseline of an agricultural site and together explored how we could effectively increase biodiversity while still providing for the housing demand of the local community.

The findings of the Stage 1 desktop case study were challenged by the net decrease of biodiversity. The overall outcome of the study was positive, given limited time and resource. Through futher design development and collaboration with ecologists and a landscape architect, "healthy living communities" and holistic property development is a way forward.
